Many men seem to not want to be married and spend their life with one person - whether this is shown in their inability to be faithful, large porn collection, speaking about their partners in a less than complimentary way..ogling what they perceive to be younger/prettier girls -

So really wonder why on earth they say 'I do' in the first place!? And why some stay married!?

Serious question - don't understand it.. why not say 'I don't' and allow their potential wife (who more often than not is oblivious to all this) to find a man not a boy!?

Because they suddenly realise they're getting older, marriage can be boring, babies and children are demanding and life suddenly loses its gloss. Then they try to convince themselves they're still attractive. Of course, it's the wife's fault becuase she doesn't look attractive, puts on weight, never has time for sex etc etc. Or in my case, I didn't wear lipstick. Oh yes, and the kids were too noisy.

I'm not sure that they do. There are some evolutionary proposals that natural selection favored a species where men's genes survive best through wide procreation with many partners and the male children are naturally selected for through strength. On the other hand, women as the weaker sex of the species, has a procreation preference for the single strongest mate she can procure. This assures her and offspring protection to bear children during her most vulnerable time of pregnancy and child rearing. I'm not sure that I buy this. It certainly is not a testable hypothesis and doesn't have enough support to warrant being called a theory.

There are some social stereotypes that it is "masculine" to have multiple partners. This might make it more socially desirable for men to report multiple partners. Around half of men surveyed admit to having illicit sexual intercourse outside of a committed relationship lasting longer than five years. If memory serves, the same survey found that around thirty-five percent of women admitted to this. If that is true, the smaller number of women who are unfaithful are more promiscuous. I'm not sure that we can trust survey responses in this area.

Men are more visually oriented in what they find attractive and what stimulates them sexually than are women. We have lab studies supporting this well. Women are more inclined toward mental fantasy and verbally-oriented stories, smell, and touch than are men. However, it is my experience that men are actually more governed by romance and the love-ideal than women in actual mate selection. Women include more pragmatic and materialistic information when considering commitment in mate selection. Perhaps this is the source of the difference you notice. Merely some speculation.

A lot of women do the same thing they are just more discreet. Yes the majority of offenders are men.
People get married too young, for the wrong reasons, and don' t really understand what marriage is about.
We need to stop raising kids to think that it is okay to be so self centered !That 's what is the root cause of most problems.
As to why they stay married it is easier for them. No dividing of property and they don' t have to explain to family and friends why the marriage failed.

Maybe they are not as ready as they previously believed they were and now cant handle the idea of breaking up even if they can't handle the relationship. Others may just have felt that they have grown apart and their relationship has changed in a way they can't coup with. Some times it is just natural urges that is very hard to control. My personal belief is that they just didn't want to end up alone so they have them as a back up. I know it sounds horrible but its a horrible thing to marry someone and tell them you want to be with them forever and then lust for others.

Why will women not except the fact that all men are young at heart and need mothering, which is what a lot women find atractive in a man.
Let us be boys and pack our lunch and maybe you will see the good qualities we have insted of keep pointing out our faults.

two points here - 1. people strive towards an ideal and those who marry do not have adultery as one of their life ambitions. 2. us women do it too. (not me you understand!) but there are plenty of wronged men just as there are many wronged women.

Furthermore, it is arguable whether have a porn collection is comparable to infidielity. I know it is a terrible thing for some, but I think this question is actually an amalgam of several questions really.

Because people are afraid of dying alone in old age.

Democollier, guys aren't the only ones who get tired and bored. Women get bored too. Very bored. It may surprise you but we look at other hunks too. So if you are married, you better treat your wife with a lot of care and love.
