I find some things interesting here, but most are just pop culture, useless items to me. I'm 50 years old and I consider much of the conversation here immature. There are lots of good things talked about, but can a person narrow it down to a certain focus of ideas? Or is that too much to ask for?

That's what the different categories are for. Instead of going "home", go to the various categories and choose yours.

As far going to a "more academic" conversation site, GOOD LUCK!! Just about everywhere on the Internet is dominated by the the 30 and below generation who are quite superficial and lack real substance. I do get frustrated when I read some of the idiotic questions asked here, too.

One suggestion could be for you to build your own site and advertise it. Also, go to Yahoo Groups and either start a group, or go and see. Some groups are more "academic" especially in the field of politics and literature, which for one who has never achieved anything above a college sophemore level of education, it was too advanced for me as many were talking with big complicated words that main stream English talkers do not use. Is that what you're looking for? I wish I could remember the site, but I can't at the moment.

Go to Yahoo groups and join a group that meets with your particular area of interest.
