Many gay people are ashamed of their sexuality and turn their backs on it in a big way because the have been taught that it is a sin. Perhaps he is like that, or perhaps he is really bi-sexual, and again, thinks it is wrong.

It's possible that the man was never gay to begin with - that he was just experimenting. Gay people are born gay - and can not change who they are.
