I think the easiest way to think of it is to think of how a word is divided when you say it out loud. Like the word dog would be one syllable, but the word bedroom would be two syllables. Bed is the first syllable, room is the second. Production would be three syllables. Pro is the first, duc is the second, tion is the third. It's easy once you get the hang of it. Good question. Hope this helped.

A syllable is a unit of spoken language consisting of a single, uninterrupted sound forming either a whole word like "now" or part of a word like "per" in the word "person--per*son." So, in the word "syllable," the syllables would be "syl" "la" "ble." In the word "me," the syllable is "me"--the whole word. In "retard," the syllables are "re" "tard." Basically, it's the single sound or sounds of a word. Sometimes, it's just one sound for one word, sometimes it's many sounds. I hope that helps.

Syllables have something to do with words. It is how a word is pronounced. example: Love has one syllable. calculator has four syllables. alcohol has 3 syllables. typewriter has 3 syllables. university has 5 syllables. Get it?

Syllables are how a word is broken up into parts. It helps with pronounciation. Here's an example: Syl-la-ble.

Don't worry about syllables -- learn how to WRITE instead! *chuckle* "I juss dun get it" -- I don't think you're a retard or stupid, but please write using REAL English, otherwise people just might make the wrong assumption about your mental skills....

When I was in school, they told me to pronounce the word while holding my chin. Every time your jaw goes down, that's a syllable.
