Theoretically it could become with a good plan of atracting investors and a good economical reforma. It has plenty resources.
BUT . Us would not allow it and as soon as there would be noticed the smalllest sign of power and economical strength gain, there would appear for some unknown reason either a revolution or a political war , either there would be needed a war to settle down problems that never existed... Open your eyes. It is happening and it has been happening.

No because India got lot of internal problems, more than US and people are starving. I don't think India can be super powerful until their population have a respectable life level.
