Couple of things, first the artist releases as a single.
Second, the single gets airplay through requests by listeners. If the performer is more well known and has their song or album debuting on the charts, the radio station will play the song. The more popular and/or higher the song/album is on the charts, the more airplay. That's why dozens of songs are overplayed.
Another way a song/single gets airplay is if the performer appears as a special guest in a interview or doing a radio tour.
Finally, radio stations, especially large corporate stations, are sent thousands of albums and singles along with merch and other incentives in order to sway them to play their songs. However, artists, managers, labels or anyone trying to pay or compensate stations in order to get airplay, known as payola, is illegal.

high brow, corprate pigs put together an 'album' which consists usually of two or maybe three 'hot singles', the songs that are that are 'TRL' fodder, and fill the rest of the album with crap filler. The singles get played first on corparate pig-owned radio stations so that the public gets excited about it and goes out to buy the crappy 'album'

I suspect that the Beatles went door to door and to radio stations to get their music played. You're pretty much on your own there. One could say that the writing and recording of original music is truly impossible.Only the masters of music and engineering do it.
