The minnow thing is kind of interesting. Could be that they are already here - are they similar to us or like the minnow unfathomable?
We may not need to be visited. When our processing power finally gets to the speed of light - you never know what we will find, and it may be right under our noses. We have so much data that has not been integrated to create a cohesive image - we have so many puzzle pieces and have yet even begun to assembling them.
Sometimes I think about what a Creator would do to ensure the perpetuity of the universe - to keep the engine running indefinitely - to never reach final entropy. The Creator would continuously create. Would the Creator seed billions of worlds thru infinity knowing that some would develop consciousness that would advance enough to join in universe creation?
It's going to be interesting to find out if the universe is more physical where there is planet vs. planet, etc with spaceships. Or if each planet is distant/isolated and consciousness grows over billions of years with first controlling the planet, then solar system, then many systems, then the galaxy, then help with universe/reality creation.
Interesting indeed.

Highly unlikely. As we understand physics, it is impossible to exceed the speed of light. The so-called warp drive that is featured on Star Trek is pure fiction. The nearest star is beta proxemi or something like that, and it's several light years away. The nearest star system that has a chance to sustain life as we know it is dozens of light years away, so the best case scenario for an exploratory round trip is thirty plus years, as experienced by the home planet. Since time slows for the occupants of a vessel approaching the speed of light, the time experienced by the passengers would not be that long, but by the time they return home, many years would have elapsed, even though their perception of time was much shorter. Major discombobulation, to say the least.
The obstacles to interstellar travel are daunting, to say the least. It is my humble opinion that it is far more likely that we will be visited by humans, or some facsimile thereof, from the far distant future. If there is any truth at all (and the jury is still out on this one) to the abduction phenomena, it is being done by time travelers, and not aliens.

I am a young person and i have a large outlook on this topic. I personally have two opinions. The first is that we could possibly be like an outcasted African tribe to the rest of the universe. You know, the tribes that have know idea that advanced technology or the rest of the world exists. Earth could be so far behind in technology than other intelligent beings that they leave us alone. Their technology could be unexplainable to an Earth scientist. My second opinion I got from a scientist who wrote an interesting article about our dimension. He compared us to minnows living underwater in a creek. The minnows do not know anything beyond their dimension underwater. They have no idea what is above the water. The scientist wrote that we could be like the minnows. Something might live somewhere we cannot visit or even imagine. Remember, i am only a young child and these opinions I got purely from research, I did not create these ideas

I sincerely doubt that we'll have visitations by ETs within the next 50 years. I do, however, believe that they are observing us from some distant point in space, and, in actuality, may even have intelligent probes roaming throughout our solar system, and/or, galaxy.
What's almost certain to happen within the next 50 years, is that we'll intercept an ET signal being broadcast in outer-space.

If the aliens are God fearing people, then the answer to this question is No.
Matthew 7:3-And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Matthew 7:4-Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Matthew 7:4-Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
As theese three scriptures allude to, more than likely the aliens have enough problems of there own, so they dont really have time to put up with our nonsense. And this is probably why we find ourselve alone in the solar system; becuase God does not want us focusing on the other intelligent life forms. Nor them focus on us; so he has put us one intelligent life form in each solar system. The reason for us being here is to praise God (Jesus Christ). Although given we've broken the sound barier, I would say it's very much possible to break the light barier. God has just made it very hard so that we will abandon the idea and do what he created us for; which is to praise him.
Isaiah 45:18- For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
Colossians 1:16- For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Revelation 4:11-Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

I would think that any other creatures who have been monitoring us for the last one hundred years might find us too stoopid and violent to actually make contact with.
If we ever get it together and stop killing each other, then maybe extraterrestrials may find us worth visiting.

The chances are about the same.
If they were nearby, we would already know about their planet.
