I’ll just give you my take on it. What you interpret as fear is in reality, simply not wanting to disappoint our wives. We’re nice enough guys, we love our wives, we don’t want to cause hurt feelings, or anger, or hostility, so instead of getting angry ourselves and putting up a big stink, we just let the little things slide, we give in to avoid things getting out of hand. Yes it is fear, but it’s a fear of hurting the other person.

Husband and wife have a fight.

Husband drinks and falls asleep.

He wakes up and his jewels are gone, and she is standing over him with a grin and a bloody knife.

This is why husbands fear their wives.

What did you do to her?
Some men are afraid of their wives, because you can do something wrong and go to bed.
Women cannot sleep, which means they are scheming on a way to get you back.
The worse your offense, the more she will scheme, and women are very devious.
We hit below the belt where it really hurts.

There are thousands of men who don't trust their wives. But, "scared of"? I am thinking these are very short men that married taller women.
