The republican party, which has always opposed a minimum-wage increase, now initiates and pushes one through-- but only because they've hidden the permanent repeal of the Estate Tax in the same bill and killed all taxation on estates of one million dollars or more. Who do you think is going to pay for all that lost federal revenue, the Keebler Elves?

They've snuck in a lot more, too.

Not only that, but now they can do what they've always done... in the next election, they can put all the democrats, independents, and moderates up there for their campaign commercials and say, "But so-and-so voted against the minimum-wage increase in July of 2006, so who do you trust, him or me?"

Will we let them get by with this political blackmail and extortion again and again? Or should we call them on it right here and now? Thoughts? Ideas?

You have nailed their (the repuglicans) motivation in proposing this bill, they will blame the democrats for its failure. I would hope that most people see through it for what it is smoke and mirrors. They knew it would have no chance for passage as there are some repuglicans that will be against any raise in the min. wage. All democrats will be against any more tax cuts for the very rich, and I agree, the very rich are the ones that can afford to support the country. The middle class live from paycheck to paycheck and the poor just barely survive.

Minimum wage increase tied to the elimination of inheritance taxes (for estates over $2 million dollars since "smaller" estates are already protected) is in a word -- BLACKMAIL! This is another way of telling 1.2 million Wal-Mart associates that they can only get wage increases if they sit on their hands and allow 20 or so of the Sam Walton heirs -- billionaires all -- to pass down their unearned inheritances tax free.

Let's see, under Bush we have the pharmaceutical industry crafting medicare drug laws to benefit drug companies and we have energy industry big wigs meeting in secret with Cheney to craft energy policies that enrich energy companies. Why should we be surprised that inheritance tax elimination and bankrupting social security in concert should not also be part of the Bush administration agenda. Jenna and Barbara will be so proud of papa! By executive order half of those employed by the IRS to monitor estate taxes will be relieved of duty so even if this measure fails, inheritance taxes will indeed be cut.

The land of the free and the home of the brave? Never mind.

exciting question....... i think of that it does no longer in all probability make a distinction interior the type of people employed. that's a delusion that an strengthen drastically reduces the type of jobs. employer many times is merely too earnings/base line orientated, funds which would be stored could circulate to share holders or vendors. A employer will hire basically the type of workers it needs to create the earnings it needs, not extra. If it (employer) can use extra workers to make a much bigger earnings it is going to. it quite is the only reason to hire. i think of that small companies (decrease than 5 workers) could be exempted from any salary determination. At that time, enable the hard artwork industry regulate wages.

The minimum wage and the tax cut are both a bad ideal. They need to get rid of the bill and work on something else.

... its political garbage i agree .. but we should really enjoy all the tax breaks we can get right now because in the very near future it is predicted that the only way to to keep the economy from completely collapsing is to repeal all the tax break laws and reinstate the taxes as well as increase them and install new taxes ... i honestly believe the tax situation will become painful in the next few years.

I think we will, why? Because people tend to vote for a political party not based on the issues but just based on the political party. No matter how hard repubs screw america, people will still vote for them based on just that, they're republican.

Unfortunately, we don't control the government. Too bad Al Gore isn't president.
