You can't take it with you and I'm not impressed. You're no different than women who like expensive rings -- i.e. you're vain.

You may not agree with spending a lot of money on such a small item. But you must respect everyone's choices on what to spend their money on. You might prefer going on holidays, buying a car (or part of it), investing it, or even saving your extra cash.

Then again, there's nothing wrong with a bit of vanity. An old friend used to say "If you have them, flaunt them!"

I concur with ShadowRules I have a nasty habit of breaking my watches in unfortunate mishaps at work I swear I feel like James Bond when it comes to keeping watches intact I can only say that one who invest so heavily in such an obscure accesseory is surely fishing for compliments and has low self esteem $1, $10, $10,000 its not the watch but the wearer.

Why drive a Ferrari when a Ford sedan still gets you to your destination? In the same vein, men who buy 'expensive watches' buy them for many reasons... "vanity" may be one of the reasons but it certainly is not the reason. Many a wealthy buy not to impress - better leave that to the noveau riche - even then they too have a story to tell... and are equally valid.

I think they look smart. I'd rather see a man wear a good metal watch than a strip of tacky plastic on his wrist. I couldn't afford expensive watches or rings but I'm not envious, I just know what I like and what I think looks nice.

I don't find it wrong. Men can spend $2 on a thing he needed and women can spend $1 on things that they don't need.

It is good to invest on good watches as I think men's best accessories are watches while women ahd soooooo many so doesn't need invest soooo much on an item!

Who's trying to impress you son? If you have money from working, then you can't take that with you either...I feel that any person on this Earth male/female should do or buy whatever they want too...Don't let other people luxuries get you down.

some people have this big of a chip on their shoulder because of people who spend between $15 and $45 for internet each month...it's all just priorities, man.

i think either you're writing this question out of a very specific situation you were just in and are still mad about.

if you're just blowing steam, cool. but if you truly carry this chip on your shoulder all the time then set yourself free, let it go. don't let this type of thing rent space in your head, it's so inconsequential!

peace love & happiness :)

Nothing wrong with a fine watch. Don't do it to impress anyone. I work hard for my money and like to spend it on nice things instead of cheap crap.

what's wrong is that it is stupid to spend $500 dollars on a time piece when a $5 watch is just as effective at telling time! i always buy my watches for dollar stores cause it is only a watch, not a stock portfolio, who do these guys that like fancy watches think they are, bill gates? lol
