Costa Rica is awesome it is very safe and there are no rebels as the first person said. They have had no army for over 50 years and it is a very peaceful country.
There is a lot of things to do ranging from world class surfing & sportfishing, white water rafting, amazing hiking in rainforests & cloud forests, endless beaches, volcanoes that you can watch erupt, canopy tours where you can fly through the canopy of the rainforest and many more things.
I would highly recommend a Vacation to Costa Rica.

That is a great idea. I love to visit Costa Rica. It has a beautiful natural beaches and lovely natural waterfalls. Most of the tourists like to visit there. If you visit Costa Rica, never forget sportfishing. As I said in earlier, many visitors like costa rica sportfishing. Do a Google search, you will be able to find many more things about costa Rica and choose your best.

It all depends on where you go, when and what your expectations are, but my experience was wonderful. People are nice and they appreciate it if you speak Spanish a little. There are nice waterfalls, volcanos, tropical forests. The Pacific is the best. There is no huge hotels right on the beach. Beware of monkeys (they can be agressive) and always ask for a second advice for everything (since some people might try to make you pay more for day trips or transportation).
Be nice with Ticas and Ticos, stay out of trouble and you will like it.
Read the Lonely Planet, it helps a lot.

Cosat Rica is very nice. The Guanacaste area is I believe the best.
