My brother gave me $2,500 as a housewarming gift. I'm not in the house yet; I'm still waiting for the title to clear (deceased owner). What should I do with it after I move in?

You would be surprised how easy it is to spend $2500 on things for the house. When I moved into each of my houses, I wound up spending quite a bit on window treatments, and various other little things. If there is an extra bathroom that you didn't have before, you will need to get some things for it too.

Put it towards the tax bill that will come soon. Unless the tax bill is worked into your mortgage payment then I would use towards drapes, maybe some tools, updating whatever needs it or just put it into an account as your emergency fund for the house in case something unexpected happens-which usually does!!LOL! Nice gift!!

How about a nice, fresh paint job followed by a professional cleaning so you're off to a fresh start in a home that's your own from the time you move in! Lots of luck to you!

You will go through $2500 very quickly. Buy something substantial (rugs, appliances, etc.) Then let your brother know what you bought with the money.

Either buy something for the home, perhaps make an improvement, or invest it.
