Because so many seem really confused about what it contains...
Why do those who worship this book, but have not read it, can not name the deadly sins, or the commandments,
always assume atheists have not read the book? On the contrary..............
Don't you think a dumb reaction to "why does the bible say this this and this", is "well why don't you read it"?
Does that make sense to you?
Who is it usually and why do you need an interpreter for you to understand a book authored by God?

You make a good point. I am not a christian, but I have read the bible, probably 3 or 4 times through. I took confirmation classes, I was baptized when I was born, I went to church every week, if not 3 times a week. I studied different aspects and it just doesn't add up for me.

There are too many christians out there that haven't read the bible and no nothing about what the bible even speaks of. Thats one of my biggest pet peeves. People need to believe in something, can't just live, but at the same time, know what you believe in.

I have two sons, that go to a christian church with their mom, but their step dad is a catholic, and their father is wiccan, and well its hard to explain what I am. They have never been told what to believe, and won't be, thats up to them to decide, but they have their options. . . . and they know they have to atleast believe in something.

There are people whose surnames are "Christian." There are people who like to be labeled as "Christian" as a sort of social badge. There are lukewarm, sinful, spiteful, hateful--in short a true composite of society.
However, true Christian followers of Jeshua's example--unfortunately not the majority, because Jeshua said "Narrow is the road that leads to Salvation"--those read God's word or the best possible translations available, as often as possible.
Why is that so: Jeshua prophesied that all the stones would be thrown down. In John's "Revelation" only two types of churches received a passing grade. Satan enticed Rome to burn all holy books. God said :"To the Jews were committed the Oracles of God." So substitutes try to comprehend the symbolisms of the Hebrew feasts and the prophetic nature of the Hebrew language. Until all churches gather in Israel with Hebrew scholars to find out what God said to His people in their ancient language Aramaic, now evolved Hebrew, there will be guesswork.
As long as those who retrieved ancient library texts keep hiding them, there will be confusion. Get as many Torah code breaking books as possible. They contain a wealth of knowledge. Naturally institutions who teach they do not err, in contradiction to Romans 3:23, they will try to censor such books. Many of such books have been put together under some seriously trying circumstances.

A word to the wise!

It does seem strange that more Christians don't devote themselves to Bible reading and study. One would think that if one truly wants to know God, one would study what he/she believes to be God's word. I myself am a Christian, and I've read through the Bible at least once (going on twice), and when I'm done with the next read-through, I'll read through it again.

I do...
and you take it literally or figuratively~ how ever the Lord is speaking to you at the time with what He wants ya to know. Makes perfect sense to me. I may not like it sometimes but that is because I am under conviction and I know I need to repent over my ill actions and words and get on with it.
