Sorry, unless you are using the beetle as a methaphor, I think you have some serious issues going on. Believe me sweetie, there are far worse things to have done or consider doing than stepping on a bug. I do understand the momentary feeling of killing a living earthly thing, but to dwell on it so much you have to put it out on yahoo, okee dokeeeeeee then.

I don't feel one way or the other. I do not purposely step on them if I can help it because I don't want all that crap on my foot! Beetles are good for getting rid of certain other bugs, this I do know.

Really it shouldn't matter eitherway. Mankind are meant to kill insects, that is the way it is designed. That is why insects have thousands of offspring and humans have one or two. A killed insect should not set off a large emotional reaction or a large debate. If we didn't kill insects they would overrun the planet, if we killed them all lots of other animals would die. So if you kill a bug so be it, if not fine. IF they bother you squash them but don't go out of your way to kill one it's too much work.

maybe the reason is simply because you dont like beetles or bugs for that matter . not everyone will liike bugs or feel comfortable around bugs so they may react in different ways
