You just need your passport. I recently went to Denmark and Holland and all I needed was a passport because passport can serve as a form of picture ID. Then again, there are places that require 2 instead,so it wouldn't hurt to take an ID. I would recommend it, just in case. You never know. One way to find out for sure is to check out the rules of entering the country. Or just contact the country's embassy because they can provide you with detailed information.

It wouldn't hurt to take an ID with you like a states drivers license as an alternate form of identification.
In some countries you can drive for a period of 30 days before having to get their license. Just familiarize yourself with their road signs and way of driving(opposite side of road for some places).Also pay attention to the men in uniform. Below is example of some road signs. Check with your travel agent or Automobile Club of America for additional information on this.
