When I first noticed he had it, I went to my pet store and they gave me Jungle Fungus Guard (its like a purple disolving salt) to put in his water only twice when changing the water and once when it has cleared up. Since I've been using it the White fuzz has spread and has gotten worse! Why isn't it working???

Uhh I'm confused???

1)How did you make the diagoses of Columnaris (aka cotton mouth)? (I'm not saying it's not, but that 's rather specific.)

2)Why are you using fungal med on something you believe to be columnar bacteria infection?

According to my reference books the classic treatments are Acriflavin (Trypaflavin), and chloramphenicol (which you'd need to be vet to get). Also some literature suggests nitrofurazone. Personally I'd use a broad spectrum antibotic like a trisulfate, and an antifungal agent.

Trisulfate- Gel-Tek Ultra Cure BX, marcen trisulfa

Nitrofurazone- Gel-Tek Ultra Cure BX, Furanase, Furan

Acriflavin- various med with Acriflavin in name, Tank Buddies Parasite Clear (Acriflavin is comon use for paracytes)

Antifungal- PimaFix, Fungus Eliminator

I'm currently treating a betta for fungus myself.

I've been using Jungle's Fungus Eliminator (it's a yellow tab that dissolves turns the water blue). It sounds like what you're using is a preventative that isn't really treating the problem that's already present.

This is my first time using Jungle products, and I've been treating the fungus (which is very mild, in my case), for a little over a week now with not a lot of significant improvement (it's stopped the fin rot this poor betta had though!). I haven't been too worried because he's acting normal and eating, and the fungus is just a small white patch on the top of his head.

Clean water is the best thing your betta needs right now until you can find better medication. Change as much of the water as possible every other day while still leaving Mr. Betta in his tank to minimize stress. Good luck!

To be honest, I've used Jungle products before, and they didn't help. What you should do is try to find another brand of treatment, and use it instead.

Best of luck!
