There are eight books altogether:

Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Avonlea
Anne of the Island
Anne of Windy Poplars
Anne's House of Dream
Anne of Ingleside
Rainbow Valley
Rilla of Ingleside

I can't imagine NOT reading Anne's House of Dreams and not reading it before Anne of Ingleside. It's about her first years of marriage, and it's a very good book. Anne of Windy Poplar chronicles the courtship of Anne and Gilbert in their three years apart while he's going to medical school and she's teaching the Pringles. It's a good book too. I liked it. It has letters to Gilbert...and general stories about where she's boarding, whom she's teaching, community happenings, and whatnot.

I read them all, but the only one I really liked was the first.

You probably already have seen them, but anywho, Wonderworks made wonderful Anne movies about 15 or so years ago, Anne of Green Gables, and the sequel Anne of Avonlea, which is actually a combination of a few of the books. They made a third a few years ago that was terrible, not true to the books at all. Ya got to rent to first two, though, if you haven't seen them. I loved them even more than the books!

Sorry it has been many years since I read them.
Maybe your local library would have them and you could decide for yourself
