humans, or homo sapiens sapiens, as a species has existed for slightly less than 200 000 years.

Most species of homo managed to hang on for similar amounts of time. But more specialized forms, like Homo floresiensis ( the "hobbit" of SE Asia) only managed a few tens of thousands of years.

If we think of mofern H sapiens as the most highly specialized of the various types of Homo, then we are overdue for extinction.

If you consider us to the very most generalized of homo, able to live anywhere and do anything, then we have a few more eons ahead.

I put our time left at less than 10 000, for a variety of reasons.

We've been working on it for centuries, but nothing will work short of a nuclear war, even then it's not guaranteed all will parish. By the time the sun burns out, as another answerer suggested, humans will have found other suns with 'livable' planets to populate.

Humanity will never cure itself. It will need the help of a higher power to achieve such a task.

It never will.

Well, I suppose eventually it will undergo radiation therapy, when the sun goes out, but the cure will be far worse than the disease.

We are not a disease - but if you're so concerned about it, why don't you start by ridding the earth of yourself!

My, aren't we cheerful today! there you are, sitting in front of a computer, benefitting from decades of labor of people who have come before you; having access to electricity, fresh water, fresh food etc etc etc., while most of the rest humanity suffers....

"Huh---LOOO!"

Why do you consider yourself a disease??? I think maybe you have waaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on your hands....
