The grace period is usually the period of time where you are not charged a late fee.

If your rent is due on the 1st, then it's due on the 1st.

Some landlords will not charge a late fee as long as you pay by the 3rd, the 5th, the 10th etc but that is entirely up to what was negotiated when your entered into your lease.

In many places, if you don't have a lease you can't legally be charged a late fee.

Some places also have laws limiting the amount of late fees that can be charged.

There is none. Rent is due on the due date. Your lease might have a grace period, read it.
