If you plan on using it to remove nail polish that you've put on for the first time, you can use nail polish remover if you don't happen to be allergic to it. Nail polish remover is basically acetone, which is a solvent for plastics. It can be bad for some people, and bad for almost anyone if they use it too often.
I've used acetone all of my life in the business I'm in (fiberglass reinforced plastics) and when I use it very frequently, my skin is very dry.
I suggest that you try it on one fingernail and see if you have a reaction overnight.
If there is no reaction at all, use it to remove your nail polish.

Nail polish remover removes just the polish. It can dry out your nails if you are using pure acetone or an acetone remover but as far as taking bits of your nails out, no, it does not do that.

If you are wearing acrylic nails, polish remover won't hurt the acrylic. You would have to soak your nails in the remover for a long period of time to have it do anything to it. I use pure acetone to remove polish because it works faster and cleaner.

It only removes the nail polish that you had on before. It doesn't harm the nail. Sometimes it even strengthens the nail depending on what kind of polish remover you use.

Nail polish remover is designed to remove nail polish. If you have acrylic nails (the fake ones), nail polish remover with acetone will remove both the nail polish and the acrylic nails.

Nail polish only. If you have fake nails, acetone will take those off. No natural nails though.
