Smokers are now in the minority. Majority rules......
I do wonder if all smokers were able to stop, where would states get the extra money from cig. taxes?

To Liam K ~ it is NO different here in the U.S., friend! Exact same laws. Not in the workplace, not in most restaurants, not in shopping malls, not in most bars. Mostly you can smoke in your home, in your car, or "x" amount of feet away from the door opening to any public building.

As to crying "not fair," I see you point but I don't think it an issue of fairness. As a smoker, I see that it is very important not to subject others to our second-hand smoke. To the non-smokers, I say this: if I'm standing outside smoking and you're giving me nasty looks because the wind happens to be blowing your way .... move. You have been accommodated sufficiently, so there is no need for you to moan and complain about wind direction.

For the person who mentioned obesity. They've already started on that. Have you not seen the media coverage on new laws for portion control, too much fat in Starbuck's products, and outlawing "super sizing" something? How "proud" I am that our "Land of the Free" now has the ability to turn us all into someone else's ideal of what we should be.

Rebellion is at hand. That or bondage.

We chose our battles. We are smokers and it is unpleasant for others to breathe our addictions. Smoke where you can and move on. This not fair stuff is too immature. Your an adult deal with it. There will always be something that effects someone and people will say, unfair. This isn't elementary school or the playground. It's the real world. Crying unfair or foul doesn't get anyone to change the rule.

i think they started picking on smokers to get everyones mind off the real problems. the chemicals that is put in our food is killing us, the cleaners we use, the cars we drive etc. So many children are being born with asmatha the last few years....why?... scape goat, the smokers are causing it. the govt finds the weakest link(they all ready tried with drinkers) and goes after it. and if smoking is so deadly, why do they allow the companies to make it and sell it? if a medication is put out, and later they find that it is hurting some people, they remove it from the shelves. why are smokes still on the shelves??

I'm a long term smoker (40 years, 20 a day) and I think it's very fair. We all know the risks to ourselves and others, we're in the minority and if it helps just one person to stop smoking it's worked. If you can't go a couple of hours in a restaurant or 8 hours on a long haul you don't need help, you need to be less selfish. Accept.

Although I understand why they don't want smokers around non-smokers, I don't think they are being all fair about it.

For instance, in bars. ..You're killing your brain cells by drinking anyway, so what's a little smoke going to do?

I do think that they should just get better ventilation systems in bars. I live in Ohio in an area where you can still smoke in bars and resturants.. yet they are still flooded with people, so its obviously not bothering them. I don't know. Everything is so dumb now a days.

Outside at work there is a no smoking sign and I thought I would steal a puff(smokers do not really smoke when they work,it is a part-time thing),,well, nobody was around and usually they just pass through this area anyway. Some guy,got in my face and slammed me,and his breath stunk,he was verbally abusive,he was in my space, he was yacking on a cell phone, and is it a law if you post a sign outside?I respectfully thanked him and put it out.I had a bad rest of the day.I will post my own sign,..I have been caught, refrain from verbal abuse, pack a breath mint..and stay away with that cell phone..talk in your own car. This space is taken!!

I've been smoking for a long time & I was actually happy when they banned smoking in restaurants & hospitals. Respect goes both ways for smokers & non-smokers. Plus I don't go into bars so that doesn't affect me either.

My fellow smokers, be thankful you are not in Ireland, we have a law banning smoking in the enclosed workplace, which is fuking everywhere, the only place to smoke legally is outside or in your own house, and if you have a party and get caterers in thats your house out of the equation, slave nation

The government in general is so focused on pleasing the over sensitive few that our society in my opinion is going to hell in a hand basket. But I personally think it's funny how some places have smoking and non and the only thing dividing them is a half wall down the middle of the restaurant! If you don't believe in punishment then put your kids in time-out, but if my kid crosses the line you can bet I'll swat his butt. (I'm not talking about chaining him to a toilet or nothing- just a little attitude adjustment.) If you are Jewish then wish me a Happy Hanukkah when I say Merry Christmas, if you don't believe in God then don't participate when I say my Pledge of Allegiance. But for the majority of us that have lived life a certain way all of these years to have to walk on egg shells for a few thin skinned folks is ridiculous. And while I'm on the subject and p**sing people off.... I don't want to press one for English and I don't want to have to explain to my kid why two men are holding hands walking down the street.
