white is combined of all of colors of the light spectrum. you can prove this by holding a prism up to the light : white light goes in one end and a rainbow of colors comes out the other end. to further prove this you can put 2 prisms next to each other with about 4 inches inbetween and you will see the white light split up and than when it hits the other prism it will recombine and form white llight again.
another theory is that there is no such thing as color. these people believe that color is only the way light bounces off different materials. so everything is colorless, all you see is the reflecting of light. this theory cannot be dissproved

Also white is not absence of color but infact all color. The way the eye sees pigment is that a given pigment reflects all color in the light spectrum besides the color it is. So since white is all color it reflects all colors in light spectrum and retains none.

Actually white is every colour you can imagine.
When light hits an object, the colour that doesn`t exist in that object is reflected. Therefore, if you have a red shirt, that means that your shirt is every colour except red.
Therefore, white is every colour.

Things that appear white reflect all frequencies of light. When all the frequencies of light combine, they form white light. Something that appears orange, for example, reflects only red and yellow light. Things which appear black reflect no light.
