they both have their benefits...I prefer on campus housing because you're right next to everything you need (cafeteria, classes, library, etc), and it definitely saves you gas from having to drive around campus and fight for a parking spot. Plus you get to experience on campus life and meet new people. It does have it's cons too...housing on some campuses does tend to be more expensive than living off campus, plus if you live in a dorm there are a lot of restrictions, like there may be visitation hours for your guests, and you can't have certain things in your room. If you live off campus, you have more freedom, but you also have to pay monthly bills, rents, and other expenses that in a dorm you wouldn't have to pay.

For the first year, on-campus might be best so that you can get to know the area. Many schools require that you live on campus for your freshman year anyway. Also, if you have no transportation and you are off campus, make sure you are close to campus or near a dependable transportation source, i.e. buses, subways, etc. If you are not the partying kind, dorms are not always the way to go, but unless you're rich, you'll need a roommate in either place - so you may just have to take your chances. BEST OF LUCK!

On-campus is definitely better for the first year - it's a great way to meet a LOT of different people. After that, off-campus - more freedom.

As long as your gas and car mantiance isn't more than the room and board then I think your'll be fine. I've lived on and off campus and really the only thing on campus is conviences to classes. If you can afford living off campus then do so.

If you live on-campus, you'd be close to your classes...make a lot of friends and socialize more...don't have to worry about food or electricity bill. Where as living off-campus, gives you more privacy and space of your own...You'd have to have a car..Pay electricity bills..More independent...living off-campus..gives you a better environment for studying but on-campus a healthy atmosphere when it comes to socializing.
