Q-What do you call an asian pool attendant?
A-Jehandyer Bandin (did you hand your band in?)
Do you think this is racist or do you just think it is a laugh at a name , i dont take offence that jonny is another name for a condom or that john is slang for a toilet whats your thoughts cos i like the joke and would like to know whether or not it is safe to tell it.

sorry for those people who dont get it or understand it due to thier stupidity. let me explain, in swimming pools you pay to get in and you recieve a band like a rubber band that goes around your wrist, these are different colours and at a certain point in time the different colours are called out and that is when you know that your allotted time is up. secondly i am scottish and so you must imagine the answer is said in a scottish accent the bracketed answer is only to show people the answer who dont understand the colloquiallism of the scottish tongue thanks for reading, you wallopers

Oh, I get it. In Scotland and the UK you guys call Indians "Asians"--so "Jehandyer Bandin" is supposed to sound and look like an Indian (Asian) name. I at first did not get it because I was thinking Asian as in Korean, Japanese, Chinese--what we call Asians here in the US.
You have to understand that only in the UK and Scotland--are people from India called "Asians."
It's a regional joke, so it's not that people are stupid. You just need to expand your horizons to understand why people don't understand your joke.
Don't get your kilt all in a knot over not being understood when it's you who are using regional humor. I should say, "humour" to you, shouldn't I? =)
And yes, I know some Indians call themselves South Asians--before you say it. But to most of the world they are Indian.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
PLUS, who is supposed to know that in Scotland you guys wear those bands in swimming pools? I'd say this joke wouldn't make it past Glasgow--or even past your swimming pool area. I bet even Scottish peeps who live in the countryside and haven't been to your pool wouldn't get that joke. How in the world do you expect the rest of the world to know you wear those bands? Don't be so narrow.
Who's the one with stupidity?
-------------------------------------
Plus, guess what? It's racist.
So, let's see...
♣It's an extremely regional joke. Strike one.
♣It's certainly not funny. Strike two.
♣It's racist; you offended a few people already. Strike three...you're out!!!
Next!!!
Let's see how you like this regionality?
Can you name the first team besides the Yankees to win the World Series three years in a row? Hint: They won it from 1972-1974, and they played in Oakland. And they had a live mule named Charlie "O" as a mascot during that time.
You'd never hear about the Oakland A's in Scotland, would you? Same thing with your gay little swimming armbands and calling people from India "Asians."

Well jonny i have to say it depends on the type of environment you are in. If you are around people that dont take jokes funny then yes it can be racist to them but on the other hand if u are around people that joke all of the time then no it is not racist. To me its just another joke that is funny can be racist but not to me. Always think about who u are around when u are about to speak and u question yourself and say " Is this racist or not." If u say that to yourself then dont make the comment at the very moment.

If the situation was reversed and an asian was telling a joke about an American pool attendent would you be offended? Probably not but if you were it would probably be because the joke is stupid. The name doesn't even sound asian. If the punchline went "you call him by his name because if you don't he'll eat your dog" that's pretty racist

Today's politically correct world does not allow a prominent person to make such a joke. But we may have taken this too far. There is no more space for jokes, any joke.

Don't use this. It's not a joke. It's offensive to a group of people. (By the way, Asia/Asian is not a race. Racial jokes deal w/ race.)

For a joke, it is lame, and the question is not related to the answer. Racist? I don't think so, for you are not treading upon a race.
