I've just moved house and I'm trying to install the wireless router. With my laptop 1 foot away from the router I get either a low or very low signal. The aerial is fastened and secure, there is nothing else wireless yet plugged in. The router is connected to the internet and there is nothing else yet linked to the network. Why do I only get a low signal?

could there be a source of interference? are you seeing other ssids with stronger signals? if not then do you have the router near a cordless phone, wirless headset, some bluetooth devices? is there some reflective glass or other material?

you can get a reading on what wifi signals may be interfering using netstumbler (http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/) or simply try changing the channel on the routers wireless.

Remove speakers away from the wireless router and reinstall the disk.
