Look at how I do my psychic business.
Then see if you can fit something similar around your own expertise. About $300 will get you started.
Then all you need is a passion, some persistence, and you know that old fashioned word - w.o.r.k. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/are-you-psychic.html

I looked that up.
1. Dead relatives I never knew who have money.
The search it brought up was for a cousin who owed 100 bucks on his electric bill. Another an insurance claimed paid out to my uncle.
Not very useful.
2. Online Cash Prizes for Surveys!!!!
Uh... Cash prizes? I think I've done one of these before. You give them your email you do about 20 surveys and you get 1 chance out of 100 to win the TV set? Then they send you spam for "things you could buy". Yeah thats not a money making opportunity. Its called gambling.
3. Find Money In Your HOME!!!!
Now I have things in my house I would call junk. Its called junk because it is. Now if I sold all this I would make enough to buy groceries for a week. Thats not bad. But all this searching for junk has now made me a garbage collector. I look through peoples trash to make money.
I have no pride.
4. Open an Online Store!!
Now this seems cool. You can buy wholesale products and sell direct to the customer. Strangely enough. The supermarket does that. The corner store does that. Now I can too along with 500 other people who can put up shop. I kinda want to be the wholesaler in this respect.
5. Earn Additional Money Where You Work.
I've worked 80 hours a week for the past 10 weeks. They are so sick of seeing me at work that they won't give me anymore overtime hours. There are these black rings under my eyes that won't go away and I always feel like I need another coffee.
My two cents to your question sugar is that a home based business can pay but getting ideas from other people won't. Because in the end getting paid takes a little creativity and doing online surveys isn't very creative.

Compared to offline businesses, the investment required to start an online business is minimal. A popular way of earning money on the internet is by providing information and services. This can be monetised by advertising or charging a subscription. You can also make money online by selling products on auction websites like eBay or through your own website. I tried couple of those work-at-home thing, most of them is just not worth the time and lots of time they just want money from you(scam). There is few of them really make you money, but you have to work your butt off.
