When the stock market crashed October 29, 1929, it was called Black Thursday. It signaled the start of the Great Depression when everyone was broke. Subsequently, everyday after Black Thursday was called Black because the stock market just kept getting worse and worse.

To expand on Justin's very good answer, its called Black Monday when the market reacts to bad news/events over the weekend.
