You can try these solutions, pretty much in order. Good Luck!!

*check the dial above the needle. (tension knob) it should be set on 4, 5, or 6.

*try turning the bobbin thread over - many machines HAVE to have the bobbin thread coming off the bobbin from the correct direction.

*clean out the area where the bobbin is, too much dust and dirt is bad.

*Oil the machine at the points recommended in the users manual

* you might need to use a smaller needle, but not likely.

The problem is simple and does not concern the thickness of the needle.
Every time the needle goes in its bringing up more thread and in a bunch as i understand it instead of putting on stiches.
The answer is simple, remove the bobbin knob. and seperate the bobbin from it, See that the thread leaves the bobbin from the opposite direction of the opening so it comes out tight.
your stich will be fine and adjust the size or lenght of each stictch by using a knob on the right side next to the flywheel on your right with a grader, always have it on medium. for a smooth stich.

you need to adjust the lower bobbin thread tension this can be time consuming and you might want to find someone nearby to actually show you how to do this for the first time and try a smaller needle if you say it seems to large for the thread it probably is

Sounds like the tension, but it may help to change the needle if you havent for a while. Check the needle is sitting properly in its holder too.

It sounds like the tension might be too loose. The other thing it could be is maybe you put the bobbin in wrong. I think your needle is probably OK.

Sounds as if the tension is not right. Try tightening the tension control slightly.

It is too tight - loosen the wheel on the side
