Its not runny or liquidy. It has hardened up and is just on the very tip of his right nipple. Its very small, but it is there. He is breast feeding still but we have mixed in baby food under the doctors orders. I wanted to know if this is normal, or if it is something that I should bring up to the doctor. I dont want it to lead to something worse down the road like, excuse my lack of better terms, "man boobs". I am very slim and my son was 10lb. 6 oz. at birth. Let me know please. I am kind of worried. Thanks.

It is normal in the first few *days* after birth. It should not be happening now. It is *not* caused by breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor. (But it won't cause him to grow breasts, either.)

It's very common and normal for babies (boys and girls) to have mild or even impressively swollen, enlarged breasts and/or lumps under the nipple. They are almost always benign and due to exposure to maternal hormones in the womb.

In the womb, babies are exposed to all of their mother's hormones. The same hormones that cause the mother's breasts to swell and milk glands to be stimulated can do the same to the baby's breasts.

These lumps and enlarged breasts in the baby may be quite noticeable at birth. They might even continue to grow after birth for a while. If you were to pinch them, some real breast milk may be expressed.

Over weeks, or sometimes even months, when there is no more exposure to the hormones, the breast tissue begins to shrink and eventually becomes quite flat. Occasionally a normal, small nubbin of tissue remains, but it doesn't grow or cause discomfort.

In the rare case when the breasts look infected (swollen, red, tender, have a discharge) and the baby has a fever, call your pediatric provider to check if an infection has set in.

Still to settle your worries ask a doctor. Call your pediatrician and see if he/she can help over the phone it self.

It could be from the mother's hormones, an infection, or both. If he doesn't seem bothered and is acting in a usual manner (you determine), it's probably just hormones being passed via breastmilk and nothing to worry about. If you still are concerned or need a solid answer, visit the pediatricion (usually they do a 6mo checkup anyway).
"Man boobs" has more to do with genetics and diet. It's something that comes along with being "larger". Don't worry about your son's weight yet. All baby's can be a bit chubby at some time of another.

None! that's a choking probability and cereal or something could never be positioned right into somewhat one's bottle. additionally maximum toddlers do no longer choose anythign different than breast/ formulation milk for first 6 months- in case you think of he desires solids then communicate to your doctor/ wellness customer who can communicate no count if your son is waiting for solids or no longer. whether he's they could settle for from a spoon, never, ever in a bottle. There are additionally extra food and energy in milk, so if he seems hungry nonetheless after that, grant him yet another ozof formulation. toddler cereal isn't as calorific or nutritious and could go away toddlers hungrier than in the event that they only had milk. 8oz each and every 3-4 hours is a wonderfully conventional volume of milk for a 4 month previous to be ingesting, and with a wonderfully conventional time between feeds! He would not choose something yet, nor does he could be forced to "get finished swifter longer".

Talk with your son's pediatrician. It would be normal after birth, because they say the baby still has a lot of mom's hormones, but not sure about 5 months later.

I had twin girls and while researching on child rearing I read that that is normal. It can happen. To ease you own mind, you could still bring this question up with your Dr. I am sure he has had many interesting questions in his line of work.

I have heard of this happening, though I though it was ususally in younger babies. I would not worry. It has something to do with the hormones from your wifes breastmilk. Seems within normal to me.

Well...I do know that babies can get infections in their nipples while they are breastfeeding (which is a little known fact). That's what it could be. It would be best to contact his pediatrician to see if there is something you can give him.

Best of luck.
