I went paintballing last week and got shot from about 5 feet away right in the juggular and have a nasty hicky. Only 1 or 2 people have actually been killed by a paintball in the 20 year history of the sport, and i scoured the internet and couldnt find anything on people having an aneuryism or something of from a paintball, and i found many accounts of people being shot in the jugular, but does anyone know if its easy to rupture or if it takes quit a bit to damage the vein?

don't worry too much,
the Jugular vein is very tough and muscular and elastic and not easily damaged .

the jugular can only be ruptured

by a deep cut with a sharp blade or object .
OR a .... very severe trauma ( say a violent car crash)

a ruptured jugular is a very rare injury.

I believe paint-ball injuries ,would be most, unlikely ,to cause a jugular vein to rupture;

If you are still concerned, why not design a protective neck collar, for players in this game
.
Good luck and i am glad your bruise is subsiding
good luck
:o)

You probably have a hematoma or blood clot that pooled under the skin. They can take up to even 2 weeks to improve. They look like big bruises and are hard to the touch and eventually soften up over time. Trust me-you didn't rupture your jugular. Your neck is very vascular and injured some small vessels. You can apply warm packs for 15 minutes three times a day to help with your body's way of reabsorbing the blood clot.

Interesting question. It's like asking what fundamental bit of dogma, if shown to be false, would cause one's spiritual beliefs to crumble? I suppose if historians would conclusively conclude that the Jesus story is a myth it would be the jugular for many. As for me, I'm a Buddhist and the meditation practice works whether you believe in it or not. Zen Buddhists don't even teach about karma or reincarnation, so they aren't part of the jugular, either. And, of course, it works even if Buddha never existed. I suppose if they found out that our actions have no effect on our future it would dilute my motivation for Buddhist practice somewhat.

I have never seen a ruptured jugular vein in 46 years. Veins are low pressure and bleeding would stop shortly. I have only seen cut throats severing the jugular.

Never seen that and have seen many weird things.......be more worried about getting bit by a snake on those courses.........your jugular is protected and stopping short of cutting it is the only way i've ever seen it damaged.....go have fun playing...and stop worrying.

It's tough, but can be cut with a sharp item. Keep on paint balling.
