My Great Grandfather. His family immigrated from Germany right before he was born and they settled in Chicago. He fought in WWI, was decorated for bravery and then came back and started working at a local A&P grocery store...which he would eventually buy...and then would buy 6 more over the next 10 years...just to loose them all during the Depression. He lost everything and had to have my Grandmother and my Great Uncle go live with other family members for a couple of years while he tried to put his finances back together. I've seen pictures of him and he was always immaculatly dressed and from stories I've been told, apparently he was quite the ladies man as well. One morning in his early 50's, he arrived at his office as normal, hung his hat up, said good morning to his secretary and fell over dead from a massive stroke. [I would also like to meet his secretary, just so I could see the look on her face when that happened.]

That is pretty much all I know about my Great Grandfather, but I would like to meet him just to hear his stories, how he achieved what he did and what he used to inspire him to even try.

I think I'd like to meet my maternal grandmother's father, Ely. He immigrated from Norway [to America] and built a sod hut out on the prairies of northern North Dakota. He had a broad handlebar moustahe, and kind of looked like "Gurdjieff." He was originally from Hollingdahl (sp) (Norway) so I guess they were known for their fiddle playing and dancing where they could klick their heels over their heads ( however THAT"S done?). He and his wife (with better sensibilities) raised 8 children - after he'd built a big wooden "conventional" house.... A REAL pioneer.
I never met the man, and all I have is stories, and pictures.

My Grandfather died when I was six. It would be nice to go back and visit with him now, not sure if that counts because there are many things about him I remember. To talk with him about his immigrating to America, his respect and admiration for Eugene Debs a well known socialist, and his participation in organizing drives for the United Mine Workers Union at a time when a non-citizen could be deported for such activities. He was an interesting character surely with tons of great stories.

I would want to meet my ancestor who came here from Norway with his family and started the Hansen family here in the US. I think his name was Olaf. He would have some great stories to tell I'm sure, and so would he and his wife's 8 children who traveled with them. I would like them to tell me why they came here, and all about the norwegian culture because I am so curious to learn about it.
