First make a pact with yourself to not turn on tv or computer for the rest of summer. Sit down with your parents and work it out so that it becomes a family project. Then go to the library and get books to read that will take you to places you have not gone to before. If you belong to a health club or YMCA, go there every day and get your own workout schedule. First visit with professional is always free. They will get you started. Walk every day. Start slow, walk for 15 minutes and then go up 15 minutes every time you can go without being winded. If you can't swim, take lessons and swim. It is never too late to get active and to turn off the tv.

Hi. I agree with the last opinion, the simplest thing u can start with is taking a walk around your neighbor hood or your local park. During your walk u're likely to see something that's interesting or meet someone as such, then u can take it from there. Also walking would get u some of the exercise u need. Who knows, after u begin to see improvements in your health, walking may just become a hobby to u.
U shouldn't feel bad that u've spent a number of years looking at tv, if u enjoy that and other solitary activities then u're just probably an introvert, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. If that's the case then try to get comfortable with it and take up other solitary activities such as reading, surfing the net, etc, in addition to TV. The variety would break the monotony thereby reducing your boredom.
Also I wouldn't worry too much about it, u said you're going to a new school, you would certainly meet new people there some with whom u'd have things in common or may cause u to develop new interests. Before u know it u're a regular Mr. Popular who'd be saying "what? nah i didn't see that on tv, i was out on a date"
Hope this helps.

I am sure your life is truly not awful!! You can still work to get in shape. While it won't happen overnight, you'd be suprised at the difference just walking a mile will do for you and how you feel. Many people exercise as a hobby. Also, maybe to perk yourself up before school starts you can do some back-to -school shopping and buy some great new clothes to wear to school the first day. There are many hobbies out there for people and I'm sure you'll find one in high school. Good luck!

A month is a long time and you can easily get in shape in that amount of time (if you work hard). But you need to get outside: go bike riding, take a walk, play basketball, go meet some people. You can even go find a hobby like racing remote control cars. Just Do it!

Get off the couch - go outside - shoot some hoops, take a walk, go to the mall to see what other kids your age are into, go to a library and get a book, go fishing, write in a journal, cook dinner for your mom, and take a shower!

Start by getting the TV out of your bedroom. It will be too easy to fall in the old habit unless you get it out of there for good.
First, start getting in shape: Get a gym membership (YMCA and others offer very cheap prices for students). You'll get in better shape, trainers will help you learn to work out properly (usually cheap or free for someone your age), and you'll have more energy to do things. You'll be able to play sports (don't count on it in your Freshman year, but by 10th you'll be ready). This is the best time to do it, while you're young and can make a difference for the best years of your life. And dump the regular soda and chips. Stick with water, iced tea with splenda instead of sugar, and diet sodas if you have to drink soda.
Get a good look: This is when you can separate yourself from the crowd, so take advantage. Clean up your image. Get a haircut that's clean-cut, but also in style. Wear clothes that look like you care. New clothes from old navy are cheap and look good, and if you have money splurge on aeropastale and structure. People will treat you completely differently if you look presentable and like you care. You'll get confidence from the way everyone including strangers start treating you. It's not fair and it's not the way things should be, but the reality is that people ALWAYS judge a book by it's cover!! If your cover looks great, people will assume what's inside is also great. In high school and college I have really long hair. Once I cut it off, I noticed a whole different class of women looking at me, people I met treated me a lot friendlier and were more open... you can't believe the difference a good image makes. It's not fair, but it is real.
As for hobbies, try to get into sports whether mountain biking, football, kayaking, baseball, anything that causes you to exert yourself (stay away from golf and bowling and hunting!). In your private time, try reading. This will make you more cultured and understanding of people, history, the world... all these things make you a better person and you can do it privately so your buddies don't rag on you for reading Shakespeare. And one book that is an absolute 'must-read' for any younger person is "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey. Your self image will improve immensely, and you will understand how to get ahead in life while keeping on the straight and narrow. I can't tell you how much this has helped me in the way I approach life everyday. Following this book will make sure the inside package matches the outside.
Choose your friends wisely and stay away from stoners! I didn't do this, but I'm the exception rather than typical in that I was able to get away from that mess. I stay in touch with my stoner friends from high school and they're still losers; some of them in their 30's and still living with Mom! Unless you want to be labeled as part of a group, don't hang out with them! That doesn't mean be a jerk. Always be friendly and courteous to people unless they treat you like crap. You can be an acquaintance and friendly to someone, but it doesn't mean you have to hang out in or after school.
I hope these help you out. It doesn't sound to me like you have a negative self image, you just sound like someone fed up with being a loser and it's great you notice it and WANT TO CHANGE. You identified it, now get on fixing it!! Your self confidence and image will definitely improve if you follow these ideas. You won't be Brad Pitt in a month, but you'll be on your way to being your personal best (never worry about comparing yourself to others... just worry about you!) and everyone will start to look at you a whole lot differently.
