the problem is that england has no real culture that it can embed its children in. We watch TV and surf the net - kids are hooked on the images from american black rap bands/artists and are identifying with their look and culture. We need to understand that music and its origins, not all good by the way - it pisses me off that african-americans whinge on about slavery and racism then go and buy music advertised by a video showing the artist as a pimp surrounded by "ho's" - its hypocritical nonsense and if we allow our kids to be immersed in this crap then we only have ourselves to blame. Switch off MTV and all that other crap. Either that or stop whinging and go out and buy baggy trousers and oversized sports shirts and more bloody bling.

It is what society is. Hmm I dont know how to put it. Its like Clash of the Titans..lol. When different cultures merge (expecially through the media), the ones that influence the most get accepted. They either replace each other or they integrate and form a resultant culture.
Also it may have something to do with a childs upbringing. You wouldnt expect Prince williams to be a hipster would you.To be honest, I my self, a black too, (dont want to say it in a race differential way) find it hard to say at the end my sentences "man". That is like " You know what am saying..man"...lol. Not only that even using the f-word is weired to me.

It's down to the media and lack of respect for their own culture. Problem is, when these people have children, they're more likely to be the same. I think the whole gangster thing is a bit pathetic as these youngsters think it's cool. They would look more cool if they stood up said ' you know what, I'm not following this crowd. I am my own person and I'm proud of my heritage.'

I think it's acceptable to use text shorthand when using mobiles...whyever not...you get more words for your money! However, when kids think it's cool to talk in this yobbish gangster way, I think it's sad. It's very disappointing that they speak in a way which would suggest they have learnt nothing in their English lessons at school and that they think to do so is cool.
The youth of today! Pah

Absolutely. I teach high school science, and I see it all over the place. Everyone wants to be a gangsta. It's the prospering of the gangsta image in popular culture...every generation has their adolescent quirks, this one just happened to choose a really bad image. Cell phones are quickly reducing our beloved language to little more than jibberjabber.

Lack of real good education and tolerance has brought them to this.Parents need to be more tough in initial grooming and government needs to change its priorities.
