He did live concerts at both of those places... He was however arrested on several occaisions but never did hard time.
His most serious and famous run-in with the law occurred while on tour in 1965, when he was arrested by the narcotics squad in El Paso, Texas. Although the officers suspected that he was smuggling heroin from Mexico, he was actually smuggling amphetamines inside his guitar case. (One report said that he was carrying a total of 1,163 pills). Because they were prescription drugs rather than illegal narcotics, he received a suspended sentence.

I don't think so..I know he played FOLSOM PRISON BLUES at San Quentin. i hear the train a coming its rolling round the bend and I ain't see the sun shine since I don't know When...I m stuck in Folsom prison and time passin on I hear that train a rolling on down to San an tone. when I was just a baby my momma told me son always be a good boy don't ever play with guns but I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die when I hear that whistle blowing I hang my head and cry.........THATS A DAMN GOOD JAM!!!!!!

Yeah he was in San Quentin--gave a concert there

He served time in Folsom as did Merell Haggard
That's when he came up with Folsom Prison Blues
But he did perform at both places as soon as he was released

No he did not, but he played a concert there. The song in which he uses the 1st person to refer to doing time there was a literary device, not actual experiance

No to both of your questions, He did not serve time in either places. But he was arrested for, drunk driving charges, after his concerts.
