Zero Population Growth (ZPG) is a concept coined by American sociologist Kingsley Davis. It is a condition of demographic balance where population in a specified population neither grows nor declines.

Zero population growth is achieved when the birth rate of a population equals the death rate.

Zero population growth is often a goal of demographic planners and environmentalists who believe that reducing population growth is essential for the health of the ecosphere. However, achieving ZPG is difficult because a country's population growth is often determined by economic factors, incidence of poverty, etc.

Life expectancy is the average number of years remaining for a living being (or the average for a class of living beings) of a given age to live. Life expectancy is also called average life span or mean life span, in distinction to maximum life span. Life expectancy should not be confused with median survival time (the time at which 50% of a cohort will have died).

The United Nations Population Fund has calculated, based on current trends, the future population of the world's countries. These figures can easily change as events such as wars, diseases, or dramatic demographic changes would all greatly affect the results. The study projected the world population in 2025 to be 8.039 billion.

The total fertility rate (TFR, also called fertility rate or total period fertility rate (TPFR)) of a population is the average number of children that would be born to a woman over her lifetime if she were to experience the current age-specific fertility rates through her lifetime. It is obtained by summing the age-specific rates for a given time-point.

Population density is a measurement of population per unit area or unit volume. It is frequently applied to living organisms, humans in particular.

Mortality rate (the word mortality comes from mortal, which originates from Latin mors, death) is the number of deaths (from a disease or in general) per 1000 people and typically reported on an annual basis. It is distinct from morbidity rate, which refers to the number of people who have a disease compared to the total number of people in a population.

Hmmmm sounds like a homework assignment...

But you asked... here's an answer... If my answer gets you a better grade, you darn well better be letting me know!! I deserve some credit!

Zero Population Growth- Duh- the poulation is staying the same... no increase, no decrease in how many individuals... It's very rare, and I'd suspect some sort of population drop is on the way. Either that or something is "culling the herd," maintaining the population size.

Age Structure- Percentage of individuals in each age bracket.... Once I saw a graph of this- the upright was age and the horizontal was population. The bars were both on the right and the left- one side was males, the other was females. China's was severely lopsided (boys vs girls), developing countries were very triangular (very even mortality rate from birth to old age), and the US was actually kind of rectangular (those pesky baby-boomers, filling up the top).

Life Expectancy- the average age at time of death. In the US, this was 72 when I was in junior high (15 yrs ago). In the Middle Ages though, it was about 35.

Population Projections- the expectation of what the population will be doing in the future. (figure out your own "2 related facts"..)

Fertility rate- how often pregnancies happen, an indicator of birth rate, and a factor in population projections.

Population Density- how many individuals in a certain area.... it's higher in NY City than in BFE Iowa.

Death rate- Is this one normally divided by age group? Mortality rate... how many individuals who get into this age group die before they get out of it?... usually written in %
