How many are going to pay for their infant son to be circumcised --- since a lot of insuriance companies are no longer going to pay for it?

YES!! For the reasons mentioned above. I wouldn't want to put my son through that.

I think it's a good thing that more and more insurance companies aren't paying for infant circumcisions. My guess is that no one has been able to definitively prove it's significantly better or worse, as for every article that praises it there's at least another denouncing it. Also I'm sure insurance companies don't want to pay for the once-in-a-while botched infant circumcision, which is more likely to happen in an infant than an adult.

When it was all paid for by insurance, few gave it a second thought to even the possibility of the potential disadvantages. At least when it's not paid for, more parents will give a more critical thought before deciding.

As for me, I wouldn't pay for it since there's no need to "fix" something that's not broken. I've never had any problems being uncut, though I acknowledge some might. It's also not my place to permanently alter a natural part of my future child's body without his consent. Why take his control over his body away? What if he doesn't like it? What if he didn't want it? What if it goes wrong? I couldn't live with that possibility, can you?

I'm an insurance agent, and have not heard of any insurance company in my state that doesn't pay for this.

There are always rumours about things like this and many others, that someone starts up - saying an insurance company isn't going to pay for something in the future. Usually, it's just to badmouth an insurance company.

If you really do know someone whose insurance policy did not cover it - have them look over the policy again. They could always file a complaint with the insurance commissioner. If it's fully stated in the policy that it's not covered, I would then suggest to them to look into other insurance companies for their business.

But, in choices of circumcision - all of my boys have been circumsized. And my twin boys will be, when they are born. With all the studies they have done - there are significant medical reasons why a male should be. Not to mention the emotional aspects of it - my teenage & pre-teen boys wouldn't want to be different in that way!

To HotMama: just because you have never heard of it in your state, doesn't mean it's not happening. I live in California, and will have to pay $350 in a week to get my baby circumcised. My insurance will not cover it, and my neighbor is an insurance agent and says that no insurance companies in California cover it.

I hope they do. I'm an uncircumcised male and I hate every minute of it. It is too sensitive for oral sex most of the time. It is hard to keep completely clean. I'm always washing it. I HATE IT! I'm thinking about getting cut, but I heard it is very painful.

hey, am from africa and in our culture the boys get circumsised when they are 15years. am pregnant at the moment and i will wait till he is that old for it to be done!
for those who think it is painful they should get it done through local anaesthetic, get assured it will sting when you pee!
it is easy for children than it is for adults!

Mine covered it ! Thank goodness. If it did not cover it we would have still done it and had the hospital put us on a payment plan!
