because children, not women, not blacks, not whites, not muslims, not jews, children are the most oppressed sector in society.
adults rule over them with fear and violence, and it is considered perfectly acceptable in our so-called 'civilized' society, to treat children as if they were property.
any time i see an adult say 'do it because i said so' i want to smack them.
noit once have my children ever been spanked or smacked or physically punished in any way, nor have i resorted to blanket authority and intimidation by telling them my word was law. i encourage them to think and disagree and ask why? and i feel it my obligation as a parent to kneel down if i have to get to their level, and explain why things are the way they are, and if they disagree, give them options so the feel empowered to be part of the process, not simply objects owned by the much larger person who can hurt them any time they want to to force them to do what they want.
for the record, i make no claims to being a better parent, i just know this way has worked for me.
and for the record, i've been told more than once that my children are the most respectful, polite children people have ever met.

Oh..this is an easy one. First, when we were kids we were not taken seriously, either..and it is all because Adult people have lived life experiences and tend to know what Life is really all about because of those experiences.
As an older adult, I find that some young adults to be very brash and bold and disrespectful. I am more than willing to listen more carefully to another when I feel my position as the elder is respected and acknowledged...otherwise..they are speaking jibberish to me! "Besting" is just a fancy word for being immature and confrontive. No one of any age would appreciate getting into a conversation with such a person.

To answer your question, I think some adults feel that young people haven't lived long enough to acquire knowledge and experience. Please know that not everyone shares that feeling.
I work with young children, elementary age, and I know firsthand that "kids" have a great deal of understanding, that their thoughts and ideas are not only valid, but valuable. When we fail to acknowledge the contributions that younger people make, we do them a great disservice, and ourselves as well for neglecting a valuable resource for our society. As for it being hard for an adult to admit they are wrong, I can only assume that they see that as a reflection of their own relvevence. In short, the time to hand over the reins of the world is at hand, and they find that scary.
They shouldn't, but thats how it is. From my perspective as an old fogey of forty-five, I know that our future is in good hands-yours! Don't give up, don't get discouraged, don't ever stop believing in yourself and your ideas. For what its worth, there ARE people who believe in you. And hey, give us a break..one day the kids will be wondering why YOU just dont understand what its like to be young.

strange you said under 25
25 is around the age your brain stops growing. It's when all the synapses are finally formed and your brain is biologically an adult.
For pure factual info and trivia, i would ask a kid. Kids know so much until they hit puberty. Then the world goes from black and white to grey.
From puberty to 25 what you think as great is really stupid. Each year you will look back at the decisions you made and things you said and think "i was such a child"
Print this out, put it in an envelope and read it on your 30th birthday and you will agree with every word ;)

We've all been there.
...nobody likes to feel like a goob..especially when it's by someone half their age.lol..But quite a few times the BEST ideas come from those who are younger and have a fresh outlike on life..Things become skewed after we have certain life experiences and people become bitter.I'm sorry you feel like you aren't being heard.
You seem like a fairly intelligent person, I wouldn't worry..If you read around on this site, you will realize it doesn't matter what age you are, ignorance and immaturity comes in ALL shapes and sizes... and ages.
Keep being you and never be afraid to speak your mind.

Narrow mindedness. As other people have said when you get older you will know why, and you will also think some things young people say are not valid, unfortunately that is the way of things.
Hey I'm nearly 33 and my dad still treats me as if I am talking out my butt, so good luck with trying to be heard, it happens to us all.

I am very proud of my 19 year old daughter. Who has bested me time and again, She gained her GCSE's, I didn't, she passed her driving test second time as did I but she then went on and passed her Institute of Advanced Motorist (IAM) and went on to become an Observer for IAM. She as an independent personality and a very adult outlook on life in general. She passed her LGV (Light Goods Vehicle) license first time at 18 years, she also passed her Hiab license at the same time, she bought and paid for her brand new car (cash) at nineteen.
I respect her decisions and her tenacity. So please don't tar all parents with the same brush.

I really agree with you in this. Parents just think we r 2 immature when we are far much more experienced in atleast some fields . Maybe its just a silly causeless tendency to make sure tht we r completely under their control. its really irritatin

Because they have been kids, too. And those adults, when they were kids, had also good ideas but since they were kids, they were rejected. It happens to all of us.
