As the cockroaches 'body system' is much, much less complex than most other organisms and it's heart is actually comparatively like a tube and it does not have vessels to pump oxygen and carbon dioxide in and out of the heart -it actually just spreads through diffusion- if you pluck out it's head and stuff food down it everyday, it will continue to live normally till when you decide not to feed it anymore, where then you can decide to either squash it or let it die of starvation. It will be able to breathe as the heart starts at it's neck and doesn't end till near it's rear.
