I agree that he is somewhat of a throwback to the old times of Labour.
I don't think he is there to attract public votes though. I think he's there to keep the awkward squad within the party in check.
Personally whilst I would never vote Labour I agreed that we needed a change in 1997. I am just disappointed that they have wasted the chance to make things better.

That is a good question. It seems that Prescott is symbolically placed in the Deputy Prime Minister's post due to his character evoking a traditional, working class, old Labour ideal.
But, when Labour became New Labour dropping, I think, Clause 4, the programme of nationalisation, they no longer stood for staunchly left wing views.

New Labour are actually old Conservative. I was brought up to support the Labour party but I find myself unable to vote for this lot.
I would like a voting slip to have 'none of the above' on. I want to use my right to vote, but there is no-one worth voting for.

I voted Lib Dem, but I still think that despite his flaws JP is one of the few politicians left who always speaks his mind, without necessarily toeing the party line, and I respect that.
If he was standing in my constituency, I'd vote for him.
