Well, you'll first of all need to contact your local sports officials, for the event you'll be trying out for. Usually, if it's a popular sport, there may be training locations for you to work out on.
Then, you'll need to see how to qualify, for example, skiing, and the locations they'll be having the event in question.
I'd probably start at the city level, in the recreation dept for the nearest big city, if you live in a small town.

You can't just walk to to a meet and run or swim or whatever you do, you have to be registered athlete with a registered club, they have to enter you, pay the entry fee and such before you can do anything.Depending on the sport of course, you will have to go through the qualifying meets and standards set by that sport's governing body and the Olympic qualification standards.

Kinda need to know what sport I know for figure skating theres like 3 competitions then nationals and that decides if you go to the olympics

What sport??? Usually you just have to go through pre-qualifying tournaments, then through good placemnt i n those you can usually attend the olympic trials.
