I have a couple of goldfish in my pond which are losing pigmentation. They are turning albino! They seem quite happy - they are feeding and breeding. They are 2/3 years old and 5 inches up to the tail. Everything in the pond is thriving and there have been no new fish/plants for 2 years.
Is this normal? Is it permanent? Is there any treatment?

Strangely enough...goldfish do change colors..A lot of it has to do with what they are fed. They need a certain kind of algae to maintain a bright color (called spirullina) even then they still might change. It could be a permanent change, but it wouldn't hurt to try a different food to see. Don't expect any results right away.

I had the exact same problem with my goldfish. I investigated it by calling the vet, asking friends with fish, going to the library, changing the food.... There was no solution in sight until finally a bought a book by jack handy entitled "how to spray paint fish". It changed my life.

Goldfish will start to lose their color and turn white when they are not getting enough sunlight. Make sure they get some sunshine (or artificial light) for some time during the day.
