I'm 6 months pregnant and still working. I work at UPS. Most of all the packages I lift are more than 20 pounds. I go back to the doctor on the 7th. Should I call my doctor to go on maternity leave before then? I dont want to take any chances of harming my baby....

In my work area (package handler), there is no type of light duty that they offer. I dont necessarily want to stop working but I dont want to take the chance of hurting my baby.

I would not lift that much...some minor lifting is okay. Too much is liable to cause you to do something wrong. I would consult your doctor. Just because you are pregnant is no reason to stop working...maybe they can give you something else to do...

20 pounds isn't really a big deal, honestly; think about how women who already have 1 kid and are pregnant still pick up & carry their other child all the time...usually that kid weighs more than 20 pounds, but you don't see the moms refusing to lift their toddler, do you? Especially 3 months before they're due. Much later-stage in the pregnancy, that might be a different story, but I'd go ask your doctor to be sure, because every individual is different. Maternity leave almost 3 months before you're due is a wee tad excessive.

I know a woman who did a 70+ mile off-road bicycle race when she was 7 months pregnant & her baby was totally healthy & happy.

Yes I would most defiantly tell your doc about your work. You don't want to have a miscarriage. I worked up until the day that I was induced but then again I wasn't lifting anything heavy.

I would go back to your OB & have him/her write you out a light duty slip. If you're getting Braxton Hicks contractions while lifting it's not a good thing. Plus there's a chance of your placenta separating from your uterus if you continue strenuous lifting. Good luck & congrats!!!

Depending on where you are may depend on what type of regulations there are about this. Your doctor may be able to give you a certificate that you have to be on light duty, and the company may have to honour that or be in breach of labour regulations.

you are probably not going to be able to work the rest of your prego. It is not good for you to be lifting as much weight as some of those boxes are. I am glad you are thinking about your baby and your health first. good luck. blessed be.
