've just recently moved to Jakarta Indonesia where unfortunately a lot of people have a negative view on Americans. So Ive taken this opportunity to let them know that not all Americans are bad.
Its bush that is the cause of the problems and that he doesnt speak for most Americans. He only speaks for and represent the views and interests of the republicans and military.I tell them that most Americans really dissagree with bush policy and actually think what he is doing is wrong. So only hate the republicans I say and bush not the rest of America. So fortunately I hope a lot of people are starting to look for the republicans and bush as the problems and not thinking of Americans as bad people....

fishball... wwaaaaah crybaby republican. not everyone agrees with bush. not everyone blindly follows a corrupt leader like bush. better the rest of the world knows that bushs' actions are the refelective of most Americans. Alot of Americans dont believe we should support Israel.... or that we should invade countries for no reason ( or keep changing them as holes appear in the ones before it). Or torture prisoners ..... we are definately the beacon of hope in a dark dark world under the leadership of the magnificent bushLOL beacon of hope... like the HOPE we will stop invading countries ... or they Hope we wont invade theirs. following the bush example... I should be able to shoot someone for no reason in a pre emtive strike.... because i thought maybe they would attack me first.... LOL what a horrible president the republicans have

Turn your question around and teach the U.S. world history. Everything does not revolve around the U.S. , you only think it does.

The world knows a lot about America but they are mostly the wrong things. I have met many Americans and they are in the main very straight spoken. The only problem is they are very insular - by that I mean they only basically think about America and that America is the best country in the world. Perhaps the American Government, as well as our own, should look at countries like Denmark to see what a Government can do for its people - then you will see a happy and prosperous place to live. There has been the inevitable problem of the war in Iraq and that has not shown the Americans in a good light in many eyes. We are allied to America but we sometimes feel that you act before you think. Whatever you can do to improve the negative views of America would be good for your country but you have to get past the media. Anyone in a position of power is always good for knocking down - it is human nature.

Umm to inform you...the hate on America was before Bush. It's not like bush took office and the whole world started hating us. But it is one of the tiny reasons they don't like us. The most reasons come from the citizens themselves who travel over to other countries and practical represent ourselves.
They think we're ignorant. They don't just think Bush is ignorant.
When we go over to another country we expect everyone else to adapt to us and to know what we want, even if they speak a different language. If they don't know English we get mad. But when they come over to America we EXPECT them to know English. Our attitude is if they don't know English why would they come over here. We are ignorant to every other country.
Here's another reason. Ask someone in America about WW2 they will say the Americans won it. This is the worst. We came at the very end of the war and just picked up the scraps and acted like we won it for the Allies. Every other country had been sending their troops out and dieing for years and then we just step in when it was practically won and claimed victory.
And here's an example of the terroist attacks. When 9/11 happened we thought it was the biggest thing and we expect other countries to think that too. So we started the war and Britain came to our aid and stood by our side. And when they started getting terror attacks? We could care less, it's not us. (I got this one off the Daily Show. He showed multiple news clips the day the attacks happend on Britain and mostly everyone didn't take a full minute on it, they just metioned it and moved on). This one also has to do with the media that informs us.
Another thing, double standards. Ok most people say we went into Iraq for oil and we say that is the dumbest thing and George Bush is an idiot. But then those same people are the ones complaining (Every single time gas changes) about the gas prices saying their too high. Do you know we have some of the cheapest gas prices in the world for first world countries. I mean Britain is climbing above 5 and yet we are just going above 3ish and acting like it's the end of the world.
Haha everyone is turning this into a political battle about Bush. They've hated us long before Bush came into office.

The first thing I was going to write was: "Is there more room in Jakarta for Americans who think like you?" But that's a cheap shot and I'll give you the respect that I try to give to other Americans with who I disagree politically. But, Friend, you'd better stick with your native tribe (America) because if you get into some kind of serious trouble any where in the world it's Bush and the Military (which you despise) who might be able to save your butt. Have all the "peace-and-love" dreams you want but try to leave a door open for your survival when you wake up.

Now listen to me. I am an American living in Thailand, and up here nobody is saying bad things about the U.S. The only anti-American rhetoric you hear is from the BBC.
Also, Thais are not too fond of Muslims. Mabye because Muslims like to kill school teachers down in the southern provinces.
If you go to Indonesia and start talking a bunch of crap about YOUR PRESIDENT you are making a grave error in judgment that will come back to haunt you when you are older and wiser.
Bush didn't causeshit! The muslim religion and their fuckedup ideaology is what has caused all these problems. What came first, the Taliban or Bush smacking them around.
Also, and you better listen to me, you better watch yourass down there!!!!!!! The Indonesian muslims have a very, very bad reputation in this part of the world. If you befriend them you are going to get messed up for sure.
You stay thehell away from them and meet some other foreign nationals to hang around with.
For serious conversation you can contact me anytime you want.

I am afraid that you can't say Bush doesn't speak for most Americans. You see, USA has a system of elections (almost democratic!). So, since Bush was re-elected after his first presidency, now the American people have showed they agree and support him. I know that some Americans have good intensions and good opinions, but from what I see on Y!Answers too, most people fanatically support Bush, the war, etc.

Should the US be taught about the world? What makes you think the world is ignorant and you the American is the only enlightened one? Thank God the Americans I've worked with here are proud of America and Bush. You on the other hand should be ashamed to carry an American passport.

I'm thinking the world and especially the Arabs need to be taught about how much fire power our military really has!
We can blow away entire nations, without Nuclear weapons, we have MOABs. 22,000lb conventional smart bombs with nuke blast power but NO radiation.
M…..Mother
O…..of
A…..all
B…..bombs
WE have Tomahawks with fuel-air explosive war heads. The big Tomahawks can carry 10 war heads. They can burn entire cities with fuel-air explosive that burn with a fire hotter than HELL!.
First the MOAB, when the shock wave clears, in comes the Tomahawk. The entire city is flattened and then burned with fuel-air explosive. The fuel-air explosive burns everything left and it burns off all the oxygen. There is no way to survive!
With our satellites we can target every Arab city in any terrorist nation, and then lock them all into a firing solution. Then at 3am any morning the order was given, every Arab city targeted could be blown clean off the face of the Earth, all at the same time. The entire nation becomes " Dust in the Wind" and nothing is left but giant smoking holes in the sand!
We could land troops 30 minutes later and own the whole nation, there wouldn't even be anyone left to shoot at our soldiers. Maybe if we turned an entire nation of Arabs into " Dust in the Wind " they would get the point! Don't p*ss off America, they can kill us all, like they did those poor Arabs!

Wow.. What's the question? MOST Americans? Rant and rave all you want, but this guy was elected President by MOST Americans. I think what he's doing is right. I know a lot of people that agree with him. So really, what you're teaching them is the country that is the beacon of freedom for the world is actually a military dictatorship. That will really help our global image. Thanks a lot dumb ****.

fishball is right man you need to loose the hate. stop being so bitter. as for you thinking George bush is this all powerful man who can change the whole world and their opinion of us, wow I mean i think hes good but not that good. Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter taught me one thing a president does not have that much control and at most only lasts eight years.

I think the opposite. I think that American schools need to focus more on the world outside of the U.S. I live in cottage country here in Canada, and I can tell you, my negative oppinion of Americans has more to do with the rude, obnoxious, arrogant pricks who think I'm there for them, that I owe them because they are in my town. So really, the negativity your experiencing is not so much to do with politics, though your red-neck presidents of late haven't helped matters, as it does with tourists who have been there before you. I mean, if the average tourist I see is that badly behaved no matter where they go...see what I'm getting at?
