General Omar Nelson Bradley's family is of English Christian descent. His immediate family is from Missouri where he was born. He was not a Muslim.

Omar is not a common first name in the United States but while the origin of the name is Arabic the fact that his parents named him Omar means nothing more than they knew of and liked the name.

His father was a school teacher in rural Missouri and certainly educated enough to be familiar with the poet Omar Khayyam. Perhaps this is where he heard the name.

Communities were mixed into one another very much during the history. They shared many things and cultures were affected. For example I know Spanish people using the name Ismael taken from the Muslims who ruled in Cordoba until 15-16th century. And my friend's name is Alexander(İskender in Turkish) but he is Muslim...Muslims also name their children Isa(Jesus) and Musa(Moses). There are many other examples like that.
