I suspect a room-mate of tampering with my comp. when I'm gone. How could they be doing it and leave my password in tact?

Change your password. If you really want to find out if the roomate is using your computer, install a keylogger in your computer and check it when you come back from being out.

it can be done very easily
u just hv to press f8 during startup, start xp in safe mode nd it doesnt ask 4 a password, it only does ask in safe mode too wen the pc has come with gud encryption wid windows, like IBM provides.
professionals hv other ways too but this is the one i use

they could be usind the administrator password
or have created there own user
Press f1 an search mmc ( microsoft management console)
Read about it learn to use it and add an alert in event viewer to view when someone has done something specific like loging on
and compare it with times your not there.
all will be answered in help and or google, yahoo or microsoft.com about mmc snap ins its realy easier than it sounds
