answer number two is almost right. the cycle begins and ends with carbon. there is no increase of carbon, and the only product is helium. the CNO cycle produces more of the energy in more massive stars. stars the mass of the sun produce little energy with the CNO cycle, and the CNO cycle is even less prominent in stars less massive than the sun.

a catalyst acts in lowering the energy required for the reaction. it is not consumed in the reaction.

The process you speak of is called the CNO cycle. Carbon acts as a catalyst in a series of nuclear reactions which produce Nitrogen and Oxygen as the main byproducts. It's basic function is to convert Hydrogen into Helium, but doesn't occur in stars until the core temperature reaches 16-20 million degrees C. The Sun is near the borderline of CNO being the major energy producing reaction, however it's main reaction is the PP Chain reaction.....CNO makes up a very minor part of the reactions in the core. Below is the CNO sequence of reactions:

12C + 1H → 13N + γ
13N → 13C + e+ + νe
13C + 1H → 14N + γ
14N + 1H → 15O + γ
15O → 15N + e+ + νe
15N + 1H → 12C + 4He

The "15N" nomenclature doesn't mean 15 Nitrogen atoms......it's the atomic weight of that particular elements isotope......Nitrogen 15.

because a burning part of carboin molecules burn more carbon which in turn burn more carbon which in turn burn more carbon which in turn burn more carbon which in turn burn more carbon which in turn burn more carbon which in turn burn more carbon

and the story goes on and we get married and have kids and die and turn to carbon nad the again fuel the suns energy
