One day I am going to visit there. I hear great things about the beaches there and the safaris too.

Yup! I'm from the US and went on a trip there a couple months ago with a group of students from my college. Absolutely amazing experience! I loved meeting people there and getting to experience a different culture and history firsthand. Trips halfway around the globe like that shrink this grand world in which we live immensely. I recommend going there -- and a trip to Namibia as well. Our time in South Africa was spent only in the Cape Town area. We saw a lot of Namibia's countryside traveling by safari truck for two weeks and camping along the way. It's incredible to see animals out in the wild that in the States we only see in the zoo. The landforms are incredible, and in both countries the people are friendly and wonderful!
