I am 24 now and I have worked for my dad's company ever since I finished university. I love the job, I think I'm good in what I'm doing and it's well paid. The downside is that somehow I feel stupid as if I'm still dependent on my parents.

How would the vibes go if you decided to do something your dad didn't like and didn't recommend? Do you still live in their home? If so, then find your own place. Does your dad support you and the decisions you make, or does he treat you like a kid who picks his nose, in public? Are you in line to take over the company some day? If you've got older siblings who would be first in line, ahead of you, to inherit the reins of the company, when your dad passes, then you need to decide if you want to stay close to family or strike out on your own. You say you're well paid. Are you paid a competitive salary or are you paid more because your father owns the company, and doing similar work in a different company would not pay as much? Is your job within your field of expertise, by virtue of your degree, or is it something entirely different?

Don't think of it that way, think of it as a family thing, it is so great to work for your dad, it is not stupid at all, besides you're not dependent on your parents, your are paid for doing a good job, and I am sure they appreciate your contribution and your efforts. Dads and moms won't stay around forever, so enjoy every moment with them and one day you might just carry the flame on to your children. There is no downside in it at all.

You shouldn't feel that way. When I read the 1st part of the question my initial thought was "do they like the job?" and you say you love it. You're no more "dependent" on your parents than any other wage slave is to a boss so don't sweat it. This is of course assuming that there are no special perks since you're "the boss's kid". You should feel fortunate that you have afamily you don't mind working for. Hope that helps

Don't feel stupid, you are very fortunate, some people only dreamt of the day it would come. be proud, one day you might inherit your dad's company and your siblings will be the one working for you.

Not if you are treated like any other employee. And if you have a degree from the university, you should be able to work elsewhere if you choose, but with the way things go on today...........

I would keep your job with your dad.........at least there you have stability.

It's not stupid as long as you are holding your own and not getting special treatment. However, if it makes you feel uncomfortable, then maybe you might want to consider alternatives.

You are not stupid for working in your dad's company. You are there as his employee and not as his son/daughter. As long as you are doing your responsibility and your job so well, there is no reason for you to feel upset.

The most intelligent way to keep your business strong is to keep it in the family. Your dad is intelligent and clever, so should be you.

As long as you live on your own, I see no problem. Nepotism...it worked for Bush.
