Yes, and technically they should be able to swim better, but you will need to condition your body to moving in the water. If you didn't start since you are young, it's a bit harder, but don't be discouraged, don't give up, and don't listen to the idiots who says otherwise. If anything, swimming is good for you and practice makes perfect.

Yes, plus size women can swim. The extra body fat means floating, and therefore swimming, is easier. If you're having problems with your confindence in your ability to float, try laying in the water on your back. You can do it by the side so you can hold on at first. You need to tip your head right back so you can look at the ceiling directly above you. Take a big breath in and you will find you float perfectly well. When you breathe out you will dip into the water, raising again as you breathe in. Once you're confident enough to float in open water, use your hands and feet to move around. It's much easier to swim on your back than your front. The most common front swimming problem, is that you are lifting your head out of the water. As your head comes up your feet go down. Try taking a big breath and putting your face in the water, floating face down. You will see your legs have raised towards the surface. As soon as you lift your head they will start to fall. Yes, you will get better, keep practising, don't give up. Once you can swim confidently it's very liberating - you weigh next to nothing in the water.....

You can do it, I PROMISE! I just learned how to swim and I'm 24, okay? In addition to that, I'm a size 14, so I'm a thick girl. It took me for-EVER to catch on, but once I did, it was easy. Two lessons is not enough for you to be perfect at it--I was terrible for two months, and then all of a sudden, it just clicked. The biggest part is to BE COMFORTABLE in the water and hold your breath. You'll catch on, just keep practicing. And when you learn, it will be the best exercise you can do. I've already lost eight pounds! Good luck.

Of course they can swim! In fact, I swam competitively with some plus sized girls (and some could kick my butt). You are pretty much guarenteed to get slimmer and get better at swimming as long as you drink tons of water and don't eat tons of junk food. Two lessons is not nearly enough to see if you're progressing. Just keep listening to the instructors, and you'll improve.

just keep to it and you will get better, also ask your instructor how you can improve your swimming but not in the water. You might need more endurance or arm and leg muscles so for the endurance and leg muscles, i would recommend running and for upper arm muscles, you can either lift weights or do a sport that you really need upper body muscles (squash, softball, boxing, etc.) but always keep to it and yes plus size women can swim, and it might sound a little bit childish but i told my neighbor this when she was learning to swim...if harry potter came by and used his wand to get rid of the water, what would happen? well, you would fall down to the floor, so the water is always keeping you up. (its mainly a point to get across to younger children that the movies are wrong and that it is very hard to drown in a calm pool)

Stick with it!!!. Swimming is excellent excercise that benefits cardio-vascular health, and promotes good muscle tone.
Unlike other excercise there is no friction of body parts so it's almost impossible to injure yourself.
