THEORETICALLY you can't get pregnant when having your period.
That is when your uterus is shedding its old lining in preparation for your next egg to drop from your ovaries down the Fallopian tubes. If the egg meets up with sperm in the fertile period 7-14 days after your period, that's when you can become pregnant

WARNING : Using the rhythm method for birth control is very unreliable , because the body is not an atomic clock and everyone is different . The only "sure" methods for not getting pregnant are :abstinence from sexual intercourse, correct use of condoms and or diaphragms with spermicide, or using the pill.

Bigger questions to ask are :
How and Why do you what to know this ?
These basics should be taught in any/every sex ed class in schools. If you are becoming sexually active you need to get a lot more information about sex in general, intimacy, pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases ....religious/moral/practical ramifications etc

You should talk to your parents or school nurse or any knowledgeable adult you can trust. If that turns you off then at least get info on all the above from libraries, call in MED-line,the Web . There is wealth of information out there just pick reliable ones : one place to start is the planned parenthood organization

If you have a 28 day cycle you ovulate 14 days from the first day of your period. Of course you can still fall pregnant if there is sperm inserted prior to this date as it can live for several days
